In the semifinals on Friday, St. Joe’s pulled off a huge upset of top-seeded North Carolina, 2-1, and Northwestern scored a fourth-quarter goal to beat UMass, 1-0.
Northwestern has lost the past two national title games, both to North Carolina.
The Wildcats won their only championship in program history in 2021. This is St. Joe’s first appearance in the title game.
