The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office ordered a Camarillo community to temporarily shelter in place after a violent chain of events killed two people Thursday.
It started when three people — two men and one woman — drove around Camarillo at about 1 p.m.
At some point during the ride, one of the men stabbed the other inside of the car on Rice Avenue and E. Channel Islands Boulevard. The suspect and the woman ran away from the car.
Parademics rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. While deputies investigated the scene at about 5 p.m., they got a call about an assault in the 3400 block of Huerta Court. A man there said he was pistol-whipped.
When deputies arrived, they found the 42-year-old Alvin Otis Johnson with a gun in his hand. After arresting him, they walked inside and found a 75-year-old woman with significant injuries. It’s unclear if she was shot or beaten.
She was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.
Deputies also found the woman’s 78-year-old husband, the 52-year-old man who was pistol-whipped and a 47-year-old woman with minor injuries.
While there is no clear-cut motive yet, deputies believe that drugs played a factor in the violent ordeal. They also said everyone travels in the same circle and knows each other.
The temporary shelter-in-place order was lifted after Johnson was arrested.
